I come from a long line of sign writers and am happiest with a brush and some paint! Add
paint to fabric and I get really excited!!

Babies are grand!

Our family has been very fortunate in many ways, thirteen of these being grand nieces and nephews. My husband's side of the family is a little more prolific than mine, but we love all of them equally. The oldest of this group just started his first year of university, and the youngest is just five weeks old! And we are expecting number 14 early in the new year! Recently we drove to Nova Scotia to help celebrate my niece’s little guy’s 4th birthday! His younger sister tends to lead my hubby around by the nose, as he just melts into a big old puddle when he gets to spend time with her.

I finally have a little gift ready to send to the newest member of the family. As always when I need a baby gift, I wrangled a sweet little hat from my sister, Joanne and I made a soft little quiltlet that I tied with some soft pink thread to add to the parcel.

Lovely Fabric for Madaboutcolour!

Projects do not get on and off my long arm quickly these days....so many excuses.....summer...work...little side trips...chores...volunteer activities...an ailing computer that needs some TLC...BUT, when I am not basking in the green glory of my thriving tomato plants and simple flower planters, I am working on this.....

This is a piece of linen and I have used a cotton batt and a crepe backing. I am stitching it with spooled thread from Fabricville and so far, I am not having any issues. This fabric quilts like a dream and is a joy to work on. SO smooth and pretty to boot! It is for my sister, Joanne and the little dresses she creates for photographers. I can just see this on some sweet little ones as they pose - it will be adorable by the time Jo sews it up with her special touches!!

I am connecting to The Needle and Thread Network this week - some fun summer creating happening all across Canada - check it out!

Madaboutcolour fabrics

The last weeks have been busy with things I needed to do, none of them terribly creative, but necessary. When I did have a few minutes to spare, I made sure to use my time having some fun. I did manage to load and quilt two more lengths of fabric for my sister. These take some time to quilt.

These will be cut into bodices and headbands and all sorts of other pieces.

I have great hopes of loading a quilt top tomorrow and working on a few small projects I have on the go....wish me luck!

Machine Embroidered Fabric

This has been a fairly labour intensive project, but one I wanted to try for ages. I used a selection of those lovely decorative stitches on my Pfaff to create a piece of fabric. This piece is designated for my sister and her beautiful photo prop dresses but now that I have tried it, I will change it up a bit and create another piece to use myself in a small quilted project of my own. It was great practice though kind of boring because you have to pay close attention to what you are doing. That means no straying eyes so no distracting movies on the laptop....darn!

Having our daughter home on Valentine’s Day meant her Dad bought me some beautiful flowers, specifically tulips. They sure brighten up my kitchen, especially when outside there seems to be snow, snow and more snow these days. Anyway, they are too pretty to not share. Enjoy.....

I am hooking up with The Needle and Thread Network. Check it out and see what other needle folk across Canada have been up to!

Shabby chic ala Madaboutcolour

My sister and I have collaborated on some new pieces for her successful line of baby props! I am providing the quilted fabric for the bodices of the dresses and  it is great fun to work on. I have another piece on my longarm for Joanne in a beautiful soft peach that looks just so “shabby chic”! I know it will be so sweet on any little babes that might be lucky enough to wear one of these dresses in a photo shoot!

Joanne’s work can be found at her Madaboutcolour etsy shop.
